Alan DeWitt Phillips, 61, of Englewood passed away Wednesday afternoon at Blount Memorial Hospital. Son of the late Freddie D. Phillips. He was a resident of Englewood.
After graduating from Central High School of McMinn County in 1976, he attended Tennessee Wesleyan College earning a business/accounting degree in 1980. He partnered with his father at Phillips Tax Service in Englewood. Alan continued the business until his death.
He served one term as commissioner on Englewood City Council.
Survivors include his mother, Rosa Lee Phillips; Wife, Barbara Phillips; Daughter, Amanda Burchfield; 2 sons and daughter in law, Daniel and Trena Phillips, Ricky Phillips, all of Englewood; Step-children, Joshua Yaney, Jaime Yaney, Brian Yaney and Dionna Hagens; Siblings and spouses, Ann and Jim Swayne of Etowah, Lynn and Mike Morrison of Athens, and Charles and Robin Phillips of Englewood; 19 grand-children and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Minister Davey Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A private interment will be at a later date.
