Albert Mitchum, 65, of Delano, TN passed away on the morning of Monday, December 8, 2025.
Survivors include his loving wife, Leslie Mitchum; parents, William C. and Anita C. Mitchum; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Bonnie Mitchum, Lewis and Kim Mitchum; John and Sandy Mitchum; sister, Leah Mitchum; several nieces and nephews; father- and mother-in-law, Rex and Joan Wilson; brother-in-law and wife, David and Sharon Wilson.
He was a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church and currently attended Carlock United Methodist Church.
Albert was born October 21, 1960, in Nashville, TN. He was a 1979 graduate of Hillsboro High School where he was an All-State Soccer Player. He pursued a degree in Architecture at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Albert married Leslie Wilson in October of 1995 on the grounds of her family farm by the Conasauga Creek where they soon, together, designed and built the loving home in which they have resided in to present.
Albert had an industrious career as a home builder and later as a tradesman in the Local 74 Carpenters Union. He also enjoyed a successful and notable career as a competitor in White Water Slalom Racing. As a boy, Albert's father introduced him to the newly emerging sport of white-water canoeing and his enthusiastic connection with rivers informed and set the course for the rest of his life. As a teenager he moved to the Ocoee River where he made relationships with some of the earliest names in the sport. He also found connection with fellow river guide, Leslie, and his commitment to the river also became his commitment to her in marriage. Albert became a champion in White Water Slalom regionally and nationally in both C1and OC1. His success gained him a position on the US Canoe and Kayak Team, placement in two Olympic Trials ('92 and '96) and international competition against the world's best at five World Cup Competitions throughout Europe.
Despite the acclaim and notoriety, he was widely regarded as a kind and generous teammate, friend, companion, and family member. His graceful confidence on the river was a reflection of the graciousness he showed to those who knew him everywhere.
