Alger Thomas Reid, 96, of Etowah, TN, passed away, Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Etowah Health Care Center.A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late James Andrew and Vesta Linderman Reid. He retired as an Entrepreneur and he proudly served his country in WWII receiving, two Purple Hearts/Distinguish Service Medal/Silver Star/three Bronze Stars/Good Conduct/Presidential Unit Emblem/American Campaign Medal/European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal/WWII Victory Medal/Combat Infantryman Badge/Honorable Service Lapel Button.Preceded in death by his wife, Vita Lee Cook Reid; brother, Willard Reid; 2 sisters, Maude McConkey and Beulah S. Hyde Moses Holcomb.Survivors include his nieces, Darlene Wall, Donna Casteel and Anna Rae Woods; nephews, Jerome Reid, Dennis Hyde, W.A. Reid, Delbert Reid, Marty Reid, Allen Martin and Lynn Swafford. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in the South Chapel, of Bordwine Funeral Home with Tazz Reid and Pastor Scott Cardin officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at McMinn Memory Gardens Thursday, October 3rd for the 10:00 a.m., committal service with Military Honors.
