Artis Augusta Cheek, 88, a resident of Reliance for the past 26 years, died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at her residence. A native of Evensville, she was a daughter of the late James and Mintie Burdett Sneed. She was a member of Hiwassee Union Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Shipley; her second husband, Leonard Cheek; one daughter, Claudean Richie; two granddaughters, Verina Alleman and Lori Richie; and three brothers, Thaxton, J.W. and Dallas Sneed. Survivors include one son, Tommy Shipley of Chattanooga: one granddaughter and her husband, Angelia and Brian Crumbley of Cleveland; two great-grandsons and their spouses, Ryan and Erika Crumbley and Michael and Casey Crumbley, all of Cleveland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, June and Tom Wilson and Marie and E.L. Nelson, all of Chattanooga; one sister-in-law, Ruthie Sneed of Hodgkins, Ill.; a special friend, Muriel Taylor of Reliance; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Benny Thomas officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Smyrna Cemetery in Evensville. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
