Averal Ovilee Dodd, 92 of Etowah, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at NHC of Athens. She was a daughter of the late Clyde and Elizabeth Graves Tallent. Averal is a retired school teacher and Member of First Baptist Church of Etowah. She attended East Etowah Grammar School, Etowah High School, East Tennessee State, U.T. Knoxville and Tennessee Wesleyan College.

Proceded in death by her husband, Curn H. Dodd; her parents; and brother, Curtiss E. Tallent.

Survivors include her sister, Barbara Keith of Etowah; sister-in-law and husband, Barbara and Lynn Williams of Etowah; nephews and spouses, Mike and Sheila Tallent of Athens, Brian and Beth Tallent of Franklin, TN, Chris and Cathie Stone of Etowah; nieces and spouses, Cathy and Joe Hooper of Niota, Becky and Avery Torbett of Cleveland; several special great and great-great nieces and nephews; Also her treasured students from a career of teaching.

The family would like to thank all the people in Averal's later life for the care she was given. The family is so thankful for the staff at Morning Point and NHC Health Care in Athens.

Memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 6, 2014 in the South Chapel, of Bordwine Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m., to 12:00 noon, and following the service until 2:00 p.m., Saturday.
