Barbara Jean Cooper Fair, 88 of Etowah, TN passed away at her home on Saturday, October 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born on January 22, 1935, in Quincy, Florida to the late James Clarence Cooper and Gladys Pauline Watson Cooper. She lived many of her 88 years in Pensacola and attended Pensacola High School.
On New Year's Eve in 1951 at the USO, she met the love of her life, Anthony "Tony" George Fair, a Navy sailor from Brooklyn, NY whom she married and had two children. She was the consummate homemaker and mother, and later, she became a doting "Nana" who always had a tasty treat prepared or a warm hug at the ready.
Active in her communities, she was the former President of Navarre Garden Club and was a former Mother Advisor for the Etowah chapter of Rainbow Girls. She was a natural caretaker who took on this role for her extended family and took this very seriously throughout her life.
During her career she worked as a phlebotomist, in the lab as a cytopreparatory technician, and after retirement, as a receptionist in medical doctors' offices.
Barbara was a former member of the Pensacola Baptist Temple before moving back to Tennessee and most currently was a member of Brookhill Baptist Church in Etowah until she was no longer able to physically attend. She had a passion for God and her family. Tenacious, steadfast and the rock of the family, she enjoyed reading and studying her bible, researching genealogy, music, gardening, cooking, playing games and spending regular quality time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Anthony George Fair, her mother and father, her sister, Patricia Carolyn; granddaughter, Jennafer Fair Baker (Sean), and many other loved ones.
Barbara is survived by her much-loved children, son, Marcus Fair (Karen), and daughter, Tonia Johns; her beloved grandchildren, Shanna Church and Renata Johns; her beloved three great-grandchildren, Brendan, Patrick and Ryan; and many loving family members and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Waters & Hibbert. Burial will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on the evening of Monday, November 6th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express their special appreciation to Barbara's caregivers from Amedisys Hospice in Athens, TN whose gentle care and loving kindness illustrated the best of humanity.
Waters & Hibbert, 124 West Gregory Street, Pensacola, is entrusted with the arrangements.
