Betty Ruth Thomas Raper
Betty Raper, 88, of Englewood, TN passed away Monday morning, November 14, 2022 at Starr Regional Health and Rehab Center in Etowah after a short illness.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a mother to many of her nieces and nephews, especially her niece Lois Thomas Webb who was like a little sister.
Betty was born on May 2, 1934 in Englewood, TN to the late Reece and Lula Mae Roberson Thomas.
She was a devoted Christian and member of the Englewood Christian Church for 67 years. She was very active in the church helping with Christmas plays, getting dinner together and any other activities that needed help.
Betty was a hard worker wearing many "Hats" during her working years. She worked 30 plus years at Allied Hosiery Mill in Englewood, TN. She also was a Pink Lady at Woods Memorial Hospital for many years; she was a Continental Breakfast cook/server at the Red Roof Inn in Etowah, she loved to cook and be a server to people.
Betty was a big fan of Tennessee Vols Football, she loved bird watching and loved flowers.
Preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dee Frazier Raper; son, Johnny Ray Raper; parents, Reece and Lula Mae Roberson Thomas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and D.C. Martin, of Madisonville, TN, Eva and Ralph Mason of Englewood, TN; and a host of special friends from Englewood, TN
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memories one daughter and son-in-law, Deanne Gennoe (Doug); four granddaughters, Danielle Cantrell (Tyler), Cayci Angelo (Chris), Megan Fuller, Elizabeth Johnson (Matt); great-grandchildren, Hunter Collins, Xevon Johnson, Keegan Smithey, Omara Johnson, Hazel Cantrell, Andee Cantrell, Parker Angelo, Sam Angelo, Maci Parker, Travy Fuller, Dallas Fuller, Logan Fuller and Paul Fuller.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday November 17, 2022 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Minister David Lewis, Rev. Allen Watson and Mark Hensley officiating.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 18 th at the funeral home and go in procession to Sunrise Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service.
John Hale, Tyler Cantrell, Brad Moses, Jimmy Jackson, Scott Cass, Kenny Carver and Doug Watson will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Keegan Smithey and Hunter Collins.
