Obituary

Bill L. Davis, 78, of Etowah, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Woods Memorial Hospital.He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Etowah. He was a graduate of Etowah High School and was a member of First Baptist Church of Etowah. He served in the U.S. Marines Corps and was retired from Bowater after 38 years as superintendent of paper machine five. He loved woodworking and "fixing things."A son of the late Robert and Joyce Davis, he was preceded in death by one niece, Monica Davis Frost.Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joyce Dockins Davis of Etowah; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Haskell Swafford of Etowah, Debbie and Jim Carver of Athens, and Shannon and Terry Bannon of Loudon; three grandchildren, Christopher Swafford, Amanda Allred and Jeffery Swafford; five great-grandchildren, Avery, Asher, Lily, Emelia and Raeleigh; a very special brother, Bobby Davis; two sisters, Jeannie King and Margie Hodges; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Green Hill Cemetery with military honors. Dr. Robert J. Burns will officiate. Pallbearers will be Haskell Swafford, Jim Carver, Terry Bannon, Nick Allred, Christopher Swafford and Jeffrey Swafford. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack King, Ed Belk, Robert "Bob" Myers and Larry Bryan. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Etowah. The family requests no flowers be sent, but memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Etowah library fund or flower fund.
