Billie Ruth Elrod of Etowah, died Wednesday morning, June 23, 2010 at Athens Regional Medical Center. A daughter of the late Harvey Darrill and Sena Watts Rule, she was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was know simply as "Nana" to many. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Etowah and is remembered for her beautiful floral arrangements often seen in the church. Mrs. Elrod was employed by Beaunit Corp, Athens Community Bank, and for many years in the Etowah City School System. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Elrod. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Dr. Charles Pickens of Tallahassee, Fla., Jean Ann and James E. Barnes of Kodak, Tenn., and Laura and Chris Armstrong of Etowah; grandchildren, Leslie Armstrong, Jennifer LaBar, Ryan Armstrong, Dr. D. Edward Jones, CPT, Rev. Jason B. Jones and Dr. Burt T. Newman, MAJ.; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Jason B. Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at Green Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26th for the committal service. Chris Armstrong, James Barnes, Dr. Charles Pickens, Ryan Armstrong, Dr. Burt Newman and Dr. Edward Jones will serve as pallbearers.
