Billy Joe Millsaps, born March 16, 1938, of Delano, Tennessee, formerly of the Rural Vale community in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 3rd, 2025.
Joe was of the Christian faith, and was saved as a young man.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield "Skiver" and Hollis Millsaps; brothers, Dale Millsaps and Jerry Millsaps; sisters, Patsy Jenkins and Unita Hicks; sons, Keith Millsaps and Kelvin Millsaps; and grandson, Joey Millsaps.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and April Millsaps; son, Scott "Sloopy" Millsaps; grandchildren, Cassie (Josh) Sanders and great-grandson, Will Sanders, Josh (Megan) Millsaps, Zack (Lauren) Millsaps, Skiver Millsaps, and Hayden Millsaps; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Margie Millsaps; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A proud veteran of the Korean War, Joe served his country with honor in the United States Air Force. Joe retired from the Ironworkers 704 of Chattanooga. He was deeply committed to his community, coaching Rural Vale baseball and Tellico Youth football for many years. Joe took special pride in leading Rural Vale Youth Baseball to an undefeated season in the first 4 years of the program's existence. He was also an active member of AMVets Post 100 in Etowah, Tennessee. In his leisure time, Joe enjoyed playing golf and was an avid fan of University of Tennessee football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He also enjoyed following the sporting career of his great-grandson, Will, and kept track of how he performed in each match or game.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2025 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Carroll Hamilton officiating.
Family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Monday prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Brown Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the funeral home.
