A native and lifelong resident of Etowah, he was a son of the late Rev. Gene and Geneva Smith of Etowah. He attended Etowah High School and graduated from Calhoun High School. He was a member of Meadow Fork Baptist Church, and attended Towee Baptist Church. He was the owner of Bob Smith Heating and Air since 1970,

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Evie Smith of Etowah; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jeff Dixon of Calhoun; two brothers, Grady Smith of Reliance and Delbert Smith of Etowah; one aunt, Hazel Robertson of Athens, Alabama; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Steve Dill officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble at Green Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 16th for the committal service. Kevin Bowers, Rick Burger, Gary Martin, Jimmy Wooten, Jackie Farner and Michael Rymer will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Shane Shaw, Jeremy Shaw and John Jenkins.
