Bonnis Murphy, age 89, of Etowah, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Born on January 21, 1937, in Marshall, North Carolina, Bonnis embraced life with a dedication that truly reflected her loving spirit.
A cherished mother, Bonnis devoted herself to nurturing her children and extended family. She is survived by her son, Audie Murphy; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tracy Derrick; her son, David Murphy; and her son and daughter-in-law, Quintin and Susan Murphy. Also gracing her life were her daughter-in-law, Sandra Murphy, and several beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.
Bonnis was preceded by her parents, Frank and Rosea Arrowood, her beloved spouse, Elmer Murphy, and her sons, Jamie and Frank Murphy. These family ties were held dearly in her heart, shaping the woman she became.
In her spare time, Bonnis found joy in sewing, a hobby that showcased her creativity and attention to detail. Even through simple acts, she imparted warmth and love, creating treasured items that remain cherished by her family.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a graveside service at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Athens, TN, on Sunday, February 22, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM. A celebration of Bonnis's life and the impact she had on those around her will be shared in this serene setting.
As we remember Bonnis Murphy, we celebrate a remarkable woman whose unconditional love and nurturing spirit have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered always.
