Burkett R. Tallent, 92, of Delano, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Harvey Sr. and Maggie Tallent. He was a member of Cambria Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eola Brown Tallent; one granddaughter, Wanda Trew; one grandson, Dylan Trew; four brothers and two sisters. He was a wonderful father and a faithful husband. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Lana Tallent of Etowah; four daughters and sons-in-law, Venita and Stanley Davis of Delano, Edith and Joe Coleman of Etowah, Gloria and Jerry Trew of Benton, and Barbara and Joe Houchens of Bowling Green, Ky.; one brother, Harvey Tallent Jr. of Etowah; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Rowland and the Rev. Martin Bowlin officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and will proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 11 a.m. burial with military rites. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
