He was a lifelong resident of the Delano Community and a son of the late Mack and Estelle Cornett Burger of Cambria, TN. He was employed by the Bowater Southern Paper Co. for 38 years as a millwright before retiring several years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above; one brother, Hendrix Burger of Etowah; and two sisters Lillie Mae Johnson of Englewood and Nora Lee Houston of Nashville.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Louise Burger of Delano, TN; two daughters, Sue Sampson of Ooltewah, TN and Carol Pettijohn of Delano, TN; grandchildren, Heath Sampson of Ooltewah, TN, and Monica and Chris Pettijohn of Delano, TN; great-granddaughter, Shelby Sampson of Ooltewah, TN; brother, Darrell Burger of Chattanooga, TN and sister, Willie Rae McMillon of Chattanooga, TN; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral servicewill beheld 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home, Dr. Harold Curtis officiating. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at Bordwine Funeral Home at 12:00 noon and proceeded to Green Hill Cemetery for the 1:00 p.m., committal service. Heath Sampson, Chris Pettijohn, Klay Higdoh, Jason Cordell, Doug Davis and Dale Smith will serve as pallbearers. Lifelong friends, Ed Bain, Richard Roberson, Dennis Burchfield, Joe Dean Lanning, Jim Rhome, Jim Garren, August Leeand T.A.Gutherie will serve as honorary pallbearers.
