Carl Harris, 72, of Etowah, TN, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Saturday, May 9, 2020. Born in Tellico Plains, TN, Mr. Harris was a longtime resident of Etowah. He was of the Baptist faith.

Preceded in death by his parents, John and Birtha Harris; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Carl Lichlyter; brothers, Merle Harris, Herman Harris, John Harris, Jr., David Harris, and Kenneth Harris.

He is survived by his wife Patty Harris of Etowah, TN; children, Kimberley Harris of Athens, TN and Tim Harris of Ooltewah, TN; grandson, Trevor and wife Krista Burns of Athens, TN; sisters and brother-in-laws, Margaret and Jerald Kilby of Tellico Plains, TN, Alene and Rex Jones of Loganville, GA, Bonnita Newman and Mitch Martino of Etowah, TN, Jewel and Terry Wallace  of Trenton, GA, and Tammie and Dickie McConkey of Tellico Plains, TN; sister-in-law, Janet and John McDaniel of Tellico Plains, TN and Redena Harris of Madisonville, TN; brothers and sister-in-laws, Amos and Ulene Harris of Madisonville, TN, Charles and Louise Harris of Etowah, TN, Ardell and Mary Harris of Etowah, TN, and Darrell and Shonna Harris of Englewood, TN; several nieces and nephews; many extended family members and long time friends.

Mr. Harris was a professional internal drag racer for many years until the 1990s. He is a lifetime member of the International Hot Rod Association, breaking over 12 world records for speed, racing in dozens of states, and Canada. Carl also built dozens of race engines for other race car drivers, well known as "Engines by Carl Harris."

He was also a local business owner. He owned the Highway 411 Amoco service station, as well as Harris Machine Shop in Etowah. Carl enjoyed riding ATVs with family members, especially his grandson, Trevor.

Carl will be remembered by many people. He could always be found with a cup of coffee and big smile on his face.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2020 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 12 ^th at the funeral home and proceed to Eleazar Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service.

Pallbearers include Tim Harris, Trevor Burns, Shane Duncan, Ronnie Moses, Donnie Moses, Kevin Harris, and Chris Harris.
