Carl Daniel McCaslin, 82, of Etowah, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Etowah Health Care Center. A native of Etowah, he was a son of the late John and Ollie Morrow McCaslin. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 100 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a highly decorated Korean War veteran with two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars with four leaf clusters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Ruth Barnett McCaslin. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on June 3. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Eva Sue Schulmeister, formerly of Detroit, Mich. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and James Watson of Riceville, and Annette McCaslin and Roy Lynn Nivens of Etowah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Dewain and Hazel McCaslin of Etowah, and Larry and Janie McCaslin of Knoxville; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Edith and Woodrow Lewis of Ohio, and Barbara and Bill Williams and Fred Schulmeister, all of Michigan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Nora McCaslin and Harry and Melba McCaslin, all of Ohio; one aunt, Melda Frye of Athens; two special double first cousins, Robert McCaslin of Etowah, and Doc McCaslin of Englewood; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
