Carrie Sue Brown McNabb Payne

Carrie Sue Payne, 97, long time resident of Etowah, peacefully passed to her eternal home in heaven on February 6, 2017.

Born March 17, 1919, Carrie Sue attended school in Etowah. She was a beautician for many years, operating her own beauty shop from her home. After her sons were grown, she earned her teaching certificate from the University of Tennessee. Carrie Sue taught cosmetology at the McMinn County Vocational Technical School in Athens until her retirement in 1981, all the while maintaining her own shop. She was the mistress of blue hair and pincurls to her many faithful clients for more than 50 years, when she finally closed her shop at the age of 85.

Carrie Sue attended North Etowah Baptist Church for most of her life where she was at various times Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, member of the choir, and member of the ladies quartet. For the past six years, Carrie Sue was a member at Faith Baptist Church in Pikeville.

Carrie Sue was preceded in death by her first husband, Hoyt McNabb, of Etowah; her second husband, Lynnwood Payne, of Athens; and her daughter-in-law, Juda Dillon McNabb, of Cookeville. Carrie Sue was the last remaining child of the late William and Emma Brown of Etowah. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by son Larry McNabb, of Cookeville; son and daughter-in-law David and Barbara McNabb, of Pikeville; daughter-in-law Judy McNabb, of Lenoir City; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Bordwine Funeral Home in Etowah. The funeral will commence at 3:00 p.m. and be officiated by Brothers Doyle Ashburn and Melton Ker of Faith Baptist Church, Pikeville. Burial will immediately follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Etowah.
