Cecil Moses, 98 years of age, of Athens TN passed away on Monday June 10, 2019.
He was a lifelong resident of Athens. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church since 1932, where he served in many capacities during his membership. Cecil was a World War II veteran serving stateside for the Navy between 1944-1946. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteer Fan, along with the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs. He retired as a carpenter from Bowater Paper Mill 1982. He enjoyed his relationship with the Lord, reading his bible, time spent with his family, gardening, and building family handcrafted heirlooms.
Preceding in death by his wife, Ruth Powers Moses; daughters, Diane Moses and Barbara Coleman; parents, Charlie and Bertie Moses; brothers, Charles Howard, Otis, Chester, Conway, and Horton Moses; sisters, Nona Pickens, Alice Grace McKinney, Vita Crittenden, Maria Crittenden, Ima Jean Moses, Henri Etta Bivens and Effie Ruth Wall.
Left to cherish his memory are 3 children, Peggy Lankford, Donette and George Watkins, Terry and Lynn Moses; 8 grand-children, 19 great-grandchildren; 6 great- great- grandchildren; and 1sister, Neva Hammonds.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2019 at New Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Sorah officiating. The interment will follow to New Zion Cemetery with Military Honors.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12th at Bordwine Funeral Home.
