Charles G. "Charlie" Smith Sr., 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 15 ^th , 2019.

He was born on February 14 ^th , 1929, in Maryville, TN to Guy and Para Lee Waymans Smith.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Fredie Renegar Smith, his second wife, Myrtle Casteel Smith; sisters, Ruth Robinson and Helen Hubbard; brothers, Eugene, Ray, and Bobby Smith, and special niece Barbara Shearer.

Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce Reese Smith who loved and adored him; son, Charles Jr. of Tucson, AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jim Kirkland; his grandson and "the pride and joy" of his life, Jim Charles "Little Jim" Kirkland and sweet wife, Allyson; and his grandchildren whom he adored, Conor, Zyan and Campbell Kirkland of Etowah; he is also survived by a granddaughter and family, Melissa, Brett, Jamie, and Aubrey Schroer of Tucson, AZ; sister, Margaret Southern; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Helen Smith; and special niece, Carol Ferguson; Joyce's family, Melissa Reese, Frances Ellis, Jeff, Lisa, and Archer Reese; Adam, Danyelle, and Macen Holt, and Aaron and Haley Holt.

He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Conasauga Baptist Church. He conducted a weekly Bible study at Etowah Healthcare and Starr Regional Health and Rehabilitation. He served the Lord with gladness by serving others. His wisdom, kindness, smile, laughter, optimism, and leading family members in singing "Happy Birthday" on their special day will be tucked away in their hearts forever. He cherished his family, church family, and his many friends.

The family would like to thank the superb nursing team at Starr Regional Health and Rehabilitation for their wonderful care, Caris Hospice for their gentleness, and Dr. Nathan Trentham for his care and guidance.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 17 ^th in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Best and Dennis Bordwine officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home and proceed to Green Hill Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service.

Pallbearers will be great grandchildren, Conor, Zyan, and Campbell Kirkland; grandson, Jim Kirkland; son, Charles Smith, Jr.; and son-in-law, Jim Kirkland.
