Obituary

Charles "Bill" Hammonds, 68, of Athens, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at his residence. A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. A son of Neva Sue and the late Morris Gladstone Hammonds, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Richard Jett Hammonds; one daughter-in-law, Tammy Faye Hammonds; and one brother-in-law, Jim Constant. Survivors include his wife, Ann Hammonds of Athens; three sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Jennifer Hammonds of Cleveland, Dutch and Laura Hammonds of Athens, and Casey and Donna Hammonds of Etowah; his mother, Neva Hammonds of Etowah; grandchildren, Amber Dawn Kerr, Dustin Wayne Kerr, Charlie Hammonds, Hannah Hammonds, Shelby Hammonds, Jacob Hammonds, Savannah Hammonds, Dakota Hammonds and Annebelle Hammonds; three brothers, Morris Hammonds, Stanley Hammonds and Chip Hammonds; one sister, Patty Constant; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Coleman and the Rev. Richard Barnes officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in New Zion Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Wade Shultz, Stoney Daniels, Jason Anderson, Glenn Triplett, Dutch Hammonds, Chuck Hammonds and Casey Hammonds. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
