Charles D. Smith, 89 passed away Monday, May 15th 2017 in Nashville, TN with family by his side.

He leaves behind two daughters, Karen Levitt and husband Ian, Deanna Closson and husband Mike; grandsons, Josh and Ben Closson; brother, Bill Smith; and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Charlie was born and raised in Etowah, TN and was the seventh of eight children from the tightly knit Smith Family. He was the son of the late Herbert "Hub" and Minnie Smith.

After a short stint in the Navy, he found his way to a lifelong career he loved with the Railroad. Charlie married the late Jo Anne Watts Smith in 1955 and together in 1965 they opened the Hitching Post Restaurant which was in operation for over 30 years.

After retirement from the railroad, Charlie loved life fully and enjoyed golfing with friends on a daily basis as well as keeping a close watch on college football. He moved to Nashville, TN in 2014 to be closer to his family.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at Green Hill Cemetery in Etowah.
