Obituary

Curtis Linden "Nick" Nichols, 64, of Etowah, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born on Sept. 14, 1947, in Etowah. He was stationed at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas, during the Vietnam War and lived there until 1990. He then returned to Etowah, where he worked for Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts and later retired from Napa Auto Parts in Athens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Foster and Alice Ruth Nichols, formerly of Etowah; his paternal grandparents, George and Myrtle Nichols, formerly of Delano; his maternal grandparents, Tommy and Ila Crabtree, formerly of Charleston; and one uncle, J.B. Crabtree, formerly of Charleston. Survivors include his wife, Vicki Jennings Nichols; one daughter and son-in-law, Shana and Buster Thompson of Etowah; one grandson, Brant Thompson; two sisters, Catherine Frame and Claudella Farmer, both of Etowah; one special aunt, Sue Crabtree of Charleston; his little buddy, Peanut; several nieces and nephews and many friends. A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor John Crabtree officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, c/o Faye Forgety, 120 County Rd. 447, Athens, TN 37303.
