Dan Kenning Choat, 88, of Etowah, TN went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 3, 2022 at his residence.

Preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Lu Choat; his infant son, Dan Gregory Choat; his parents, Frank and Maggie Choat; brothers, Nelson Choat, Bill Choate, Ernest Choat, Robert Choate; and sisters, Martha Lu Armstrong, Arbutus Mayfield, Oveline Massingale, Daphne Blair, and Joyce Culpepper.

Dan was an active member of Goodsprings Baptist Church serving as Music Director for over 25 years.

He is a 1957 graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College. He had a 38 year career with Bowater in Purchasing culminating as a Senior Buyer.   Dan also owned and operated the Goodsprings Grocery from 1955 through 1978.

Survivors include his four sons and daughters-in-law, Perry and Karen Choat of Birmingham, AL, Nick and Michelle Choat of Sarasota, FL, Tracy and Gail Choat of Huntsville, AL, David and Cheri Choat of Etowah, TN; three granddaughters, Erin and husband Matt Bonds, Meghan and husband Gustavo Santos and Payton Choat. five grandsons, Colin Choat and wife, Mary Kathryn, Drew Choat and wife Josie, Adam Choat and wife Val, Cameron Choat, and Ian Shaw. five great-granddaughters, Emmaleigh Choat, Aubrey Choat, Gracyn Choat, Sophia Bonds, and Hannah Bonds. three great-grandsons, Elijah Bonds, Owen Bonds, and Lucas Santos; one sister, Pat Klein of Knoxville, TN; one brother, Gene Choate; and special friend and companion, Linda Newberry of Etowah, TN.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. David Lones officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 8th at the funeral home and proceed to Goodsprings Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service.
