Danny Stephen McDonald of Etowah passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014. He was born January 31, 1961 and married Jenny McDonald on April 21, 1984. He was a father to Beth and Joshua McDonald. Danny was the shop supervisor assistant to Yogi "Paul" White and a bid runner at Haren Construction for the last 8 years after retiring from 26 years of police service. He started policing after he graduated from McMinn Central High School in 1979. He trained at Chattanooga Police Academy in 1979. He started as a jailer/dispatcher for Etowah Police Department as soon as he graduated high school and was promoted to road sergeant after graduating the academy. He left there to serve under Sheriff Larry Wallace as a deputy/patrolman. He then left to work as a patrolman for the Athens Police Department. He next served under George Rogers as his chief deputy. When their term was over, he started as a patrolman in the city of Englewood and eventually would be appointed to Chief of Police. He retired from that position and police service. He loved protecting and serving the public and being an enforcer of the law. The love of his life was his children and granddog, Bella. He loved being an adult leader of his son's Boy Scout Troop 74 and the Venture Crew 308. He also loved being a soccer dad for his daughter when she played and was an avid worker and supporter of the McMinn Central Soccer Team during that time. He loved to have a big barbecue with his family or a big fire on campouts! He always loved a good laugh. He never met a stranger. He will be missed but always loved. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stephens and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McDonald.Survivors include his wife, Jenny McDonald; children, Beth and Joshua McDonald; parents, Barbara and Harvey McDonald; brother, Jimmy "Pug" McDonald; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Debbie McDonald; nephew, Alex McDonald; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Cissie Joines; sister and brother-in-law, Cathie and Phil Foster, Tyler "Ben" and Spencer. He leaves behind and will join many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins.Funeral service will held at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Paul White and Rev. Mike Bernard officiating. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 9th at the funeral home and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 11:00 a.m., committal service. Friends and fellow officers; Rob Davis, Don Long, Danny Jones, Adam Cook, Mark Barnes and Michael Jackson will serve as pallbearers.
