Obituary

David E. Crockett, 88, of Etowah,passed away,Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at his residence. A native of McMinn County, he was a charter member and founder of the Woods Memorial Hospital Foundation and was the first chairman of the McMinn County Commission. He received the THA Meritorious Service Award and the Distinguished Service Award as volunteer project manager for the construction phase of Woods Regional Dialysis Center. He was a general contractor, a member of Etowah Masonic Lodge 653, a McMinn County Commissioner and served on the Board of Trustees at Woods Memorial Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy in the Construction Battalion "Seabees." A son of the late David Edgar and Ada Mae Kelley Crockett, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Standifer Crockett; one brother, Troy Crockett; and two sisters, Sue Crockett and Pauline Melton. He enjoyed walking "Boggie," his terrier, and going camping. Survivors include his wife, Dixie Aderhold Crockett of Etowah; one stepdaughter, Linda Rich and her husband, Eddie, of Etowah; one step-grandson, Todd Rich and his wife, Amy, of Etowah; one step-great-grandchild, Cameron Lee Rich of Etowah; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Herbert Crockett of Chattanooga, and Derward and Helen Crockett of McMinn County; two sisters, Lula Mae Crockett and Sharon Ann Coltharp, both of McMinn County; five nieces, Betty Carter, Karen McGinnis, Allison McGinnis, Kathy Crockett Upchurch and Shelby Crockett Morrow; and three nephews, Travis Crockett, Patrick Crockett and Cole McGinnis. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Brother Mark Wade officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd Rich, Pat Crockett, Glenn Sisson, Thom Johnson, Steve Goodner and Don Ingram. Dennis Bordwine will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
