Dr. David Allen Duncan, 76, of Athens, TN, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
David was a beloved professor for 40 years at TWU. To each class, he brought immense knowledge, energy, and many slides across the floor as he wrote feverishly with chalk, important facts, names, and dates for students to remember. He made the information come alive and have meaning and value both present and past. He was a champion for his students and cheered for the underdog. He wanted no attention called to himself but was showered with many accolades and awards earned through academia and his pursuit of excellence. He expected much of himself and others. He believed his students and parents deserved "real college" with high standards and expectations and would not accept anything less than their best. Almost as much as he loved his son Cole, he loved the city of Paris! Paris reflected who David Duncan was… A beautiful soul full of culture, arts, good food, and the sense that we are just a tiny presence on this earth. He reflected most of all, our Savior's greatest commandment to love as we have been loved by HIM. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Betty Jean Duncan.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Cole and Chanel Duncan; mother of his perfect child, Joyce Duncan Snyder; brother, Steve Duncan.
Memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 with Rev. Dr. Sam Roberts and Rev. Dr. William McDonald officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to WUOT Radio station in memory of David.
