David Allan Hairris, 48, of Etowah, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. A son of Allan and Ann Hairris, of Etowah, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William H. and Blanch Hairris; his special granny, Mattie Casteel; and his maternal grandparents, Hoyal and Celoras Collins. He was a loving husband, father and son, and was a 1980 graduate of McMinn Central High School where he played football. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Hairris of Etowah; one son, Allan Eugene Hairris of Decatur; one sister, Judy Cordell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Laverene Harris of Etowah; two sisters-in-law, Donna Adcox and Pam Moses; one brother-in-law, Wayne Moses; four nephews, Stephen Cordell, Cameron Cordell, Zachary Moses and Ethan Moses; one niece, Kaitlyn Atkins; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and a special friend, Jeff Anderson. Special thanks to Dr. Tracy Dobbs and staff, Dr. Yung Gil Lee and staff and Caris Hospice. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. David Watson and the Rev. Frank Kincannon officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday and will proceed to Conasauga cemetery for the 11 a.m. burial. Pallbearers will be Allen Coleman, Wayne Moses, Stanley Bowers, Jack Coleman, Chris Casteel and Hugene Casteel. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
