Dewey Starkey

Dewey Starkey of Athens passed away at the age of 74 Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at his home.

A native of McMinn County, he was a veteran of the National Guard and retired from the CSX Railroad.

He was the son of the late Julius Gandius Starkey and Betty Loftis Starkey and proceeded in death by his parents, and three brothers, John Henry Starkey, Luther Starkey and Howard Starkey.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Buckner Starkey; daughter and son-in-law, Julia Starkey Gibson and Zane Gibson; grandsons Brad Atkins and Martin Evans; granddaughter and fiancé', Kayla Evans and Devon Morgan; great-granddaughters, Jennifer Atkins and Meadow Atkins; and sisters, Irene Starkey Corn, Rita Starkey Whitten, and Evelyn Starkey Peel. He had several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 29, 2011, in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2pm Saturday prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Goodsprings Cemetery.
