Donald Newberry, 69, of Etowah, died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Woods Memorial Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was retired after 42 years of service from Etowah Utilities. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. A son of the late Clyde Sr. and Alice Newberry, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, H.C., Fred, Ed, Charlie, Frank, Carson, Mark and Glen Newberry; and one sister, Lemma Newberry Burchfield. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marie Harmon Newberry of Etowah; one brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Linda Newberry of Etowah; one sister and brother-in-law, Sibyl Newberry and Bruce Nunley of Etowah; a special friend, Sonny Kyle; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Meigs County with the Rev. Rick Duncan, the Rev. Ralph Swafford and the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Newberry, Pat Burchfield, Mike Ellison, Marty Kyle, Bobby Reed and Dennis Reed. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home.
