Doris Jean Ware Perry passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Doris was born on March 10, 1932 in Copperhill, TN.
Preceded in death by her parents, Herschel M. Ware and Anna Mae Bradford Ware.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Eddie Perry of Etowah, TN; her three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Leon Pate of Cohutta, GA, Dana Perry of Cleveland, TN, Jan and Tommy Rodgers of Nashville, TN. She was also the proud grandmother of Jordan Pate, Elizabeth Pate Holland and husband Preston, Thomas Rodgers; great-grandmother of Anna Rose Holland; two sisters, Nell Rose Ware of Copperhill, TN and Mary Ann McKinney of Decatur, AL.; niece, Lea McKinney Richardson. She also leaves behind several brothers and sisters-in-law and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doris was a graduate of Copperhill High School and attended Tennessee Wesleyan College. During her early career ventures, she spent time as a telephone operator and worked in the insurance industry. She also served as the church secretary at Trinity UMC in Athens, TN and was the assistant to the Vice President at Tennessee Wesleyan University.
As an avid music lover, Doris was a very accomplished pianist and vocalist. She was an integral part of the church choirs at Brainerd Baptist in Chattanooga, TN, North Etowah Baptist and First Baptist Church of Etowah, TN. She also contributed her gifts as church pianist both at North Etowah and First Baptist and accompanied numerous children's choirs over the years. She was a long-time participant in the Athens Area Community Chorus and a lifetime member of the Thursday Music Study Club of Etowah.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Etowah, TN, with Pastor Allan Lovelace officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be given in her memory to First Baptist Church of Etowah, TN, P.O. Box 317, Etowah, TN 37331 or the American Lung Association, One Vantage Way, Ste. C120, Nashville, TN 37228-1593.
