Dorothy Mae (Dot) Moates Chastain, 90, passed away May 19, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Hilary and Martha Moates.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald; son, Sam; four brothers, Herbert, Frank, Donald, and Billy Moates; and sister, Lillian Miller.

Dorothy graduated from Etowah High School in 1945 and worked at Robinson Wholesale in Etowah before marrying and moving to Chattanooga. She moved back to Etowah in 1954 and then to Delano. Dorothy was a substitute teacher at Delano Grammar School. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service at Delano then Benton Post Office where she worked 24 years until retirement.

She was the oldest living member of Wetmore Baptist Church in Delano. Dorothy loved teaching young people. She taught the youth Sunday School class, GA's, Acteens, was active in WMU, and was church clerk for 5 years.

Dorothy traveled to 17 foreign countries. One of the highlights of her travels was a mission trip to Russia in 1990 to distribute Bibles.

She is survived by her sons and wives, Rick and Alice Chastain, Mitch and Florence Chastain, and Dennis and Melanie Chastain; Jane Chastain Weaver; sister, Edna and Charlie Ross; sister-in-law, Marie Moates; and brother-in-law, Ray and Brenda Chastain; 9 grandchildren and spouses, Amanda and Zach Patterson, Haley and David Resseguie, Lacey and Josh Rule, Heath and Rebekah Chastain, Tucker and Amanda Chastain, Ashley and Steven Elliot, Jeffrey Chastain, Amanda and Reece Sydnor and Matthew Dotson; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you is given to Athens Place and Dominion Senior Living for taking good care of Dot.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Wetmore Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Earl and Rev. Johnnie Moore officiating. Family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will meet at Delano Community Cemetery Thursday, May 24, 2018 for the 10:00 a.m. committal service.
