Edith L. Alexander, 89, of Athens, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at NHC Health Care of Athens. A native of Knox County, Ohio, she had lived in Athens since 2003. A daughter of the late Alva and Zella Bechtel, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. Alexander; three brothers and one sister. She was a member of Northside Christian Church in Marietta, Ga. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Marcia Alexander of Athens, and Douglas and Kathy Alexander of Louisville; one sister, Erma Roberts of Fredericktown, Ohio; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrin Long officiating. Private entombment will be held Sunday at Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw, Ga. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
