Obituary

Eleanor Marrs Harper of Etowah, TN was taken peacefully by her Heavenly Father on the night of January 27, 2018. At her side were son, Bobby and his fiancé' Brenda.

She was a proud graduate of Etowah High School. She was 84 years of age. Eleanor worked for many years as a secretary/bookkeeper at McMinn Central High School where she was beloved by the students. Many affectionately referred to her as the lunch ticket lady. She attended Cleveland State Community College and later worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development as Executive Director of the Etowah Housing Authority. She held that position for 20 plus years before retiring. Eleanor was a devoted Christian and a staunch believer in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Through the years she taught Sunday school, training union, vacation bible school and assisted the church youth group in mission work and various other activities. She was also a pianist for Sunday morning worship services and a tenor in the church choir. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and also attended Wesley Memorial United Methodist, both of Etowah. She was a devoted mother and wife. Eleanor enjoyed walking each day and loved to hike. She trekked to the top of Mount LeConte on several occasions, once even through the snow. She had a passion for gardening and loved working in her yard. She loved decorating her home for the holidays with her blue Christmas tree. She loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends.

Mrs. Harper is preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Dewy Marrs and her husband of 49 years, Robert N. "Bob" Harper.

She is survived by her brother, John D. Marrs and wife Margaret of Cummings, GA; sons, Bobby Harper of Pigeon forge and Billy Harper of Ocean springs, MS; grandchildren, Meredith Harper Campbell of Morristown, Paul Harper and wife, Leia of Pigeon Forge and Grant Harper of Germantown, TN; great-grandchildren, Myleigh and Mia "Meredith" as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Etowah Health Care Center for their excellent care and kindness these past two years. Thank you to the Miracle Lake boys for their wonderful ministry. Mrs. Harper will be cremated and her ashes will be distributed later, by her sons, at their discretion.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 in the Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Bryan to officiate, a longtime friend of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that contributions be directed to First Baptist Church, Audio Visual, 824 Washington Ave., Etowah, TN 37331.
