A native of McMinn County and a resident of Etowah all her life., she was a daughter of the late Wiley and Flora Stewart Gentry. She was a member of the Etowah Church of Christ, and a volunteer at Woods Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by parents, listed above; her husband, Joe Cockrell; one sister, Nellie Mae Williams and one brother Tom Gentry.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joe R. and Nidavann Cockrell of Athens, TN, one sister Iva Lay of Athens, TN, one sister-in-law, Margaret Gentry of Rockwood, TN and several nieces and nephews
Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, October 22nd, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Minister Bill Corn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 23th and proceed to Conasauga Cemetery for the 10 a.m. committal service. J.L. Gentry, Charles Gentry, Allen Gentry, Ben Graham, Joe Moates and Rick Lay will serve as pallbearers.
