Flora Mae "Toot "Johnson Barclay
Flora Mae "Toot" Johnson Barclay, 82 passed away Sunday January 23, 2011 at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born in Coghill, TN into a family of five brothers and two sisters. Her father was a machinist and her mother a housewife. At a young age, following her mother's death, she moved to Etowah to live with her oldest sister. While attending Etowah High School, she met her groom of 61 years, Edward Leon Curly' Barclay. Toot and Curly married in 1948 and ultimately found their way to Athens in 1950 to begin their family of five. Toot was a loving wife, a loving mother and a loving grandparent; she personified unconditional love.
Toot retired from the McMinn County Clerk's Office with more than 26 years of service on May 13, 1988 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens for the past 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her Husband Edward Leon "Curly" Barclay
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Lee and husband Alvin, and Mary Helen Newman and her husband David; one son and daughter-in-law, Don Barclay and wife Kathy; six grandchildren, Brian Lee, Laura Lee, Cayci Carvajal, Stephanie Barclay, Brittany Barclay, and Tiffany Peterson; two great-grandsons, Rhett Peterson and Braden Lee; and one brother Rual Johnson.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday, January 25, 2011, in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home, with Rev. Dan Ivins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Interment to follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
