Frankie Tallent Jr., a dedicated preservationist and cherished member of his community, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital. Born on December 3, 1963, Frankie’s life was marked by a deep commitment to history, culture, and family.
A proud graduate of Polk County High School in 1981, Frankie distinguished himself not only academically but also through his participation in the high school band, showcasing his early passion for the arts. Pursuing higher education with a keen interest in history, he earned a bachelor’s degree in historic preservation from Middle Tennessee State University. His academic journey also extended abroad, where he completed studies in Germeraheim, Germany, further enriching his understanding and appreciation of historic preservation on an international scale. In his free time, he enjoyed the sport of weight-lifting, often going to competitions all over the United States and bringing home several medals,
Frankie’s professional career reflected his dedication to preserving the nation’s heritage. He was employed by notable historical sites such as the Chickamauga and Stones River battlefields, where his work contributed to the protection and interpretation of these significant landmarks. Additionally, he lent his expertise to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, TN blending his passion for history with the rich cultural tapestry of country music.
Frankie’s life was deeply rooted in family. He is survived by his loving mother, Wanda D. Tallent; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles Tallent and Gemma; and his niece, Shannon L. Tallent. These relationships were a source of great joy and strength throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frankie Leon Tallent Sr.; maternal grandparents, Hershell and Oma Davis; paternal grandparents, Frank and Bertha Tallent; as well as uncles, Cecil A. Davis, Dewey C. Davis, F. Lance Davis, William “Bill” H. Davis, and his aunt Samantha E. Davis, all of whom hold a precious place in his memory.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday prior to the service.
Interment will follow the service in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
