Freddie Dewitt Phillips, 73, of Englewood, passed away, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens, TN following a brief illness. A native and resident of Englewood, he was a son of the late Chester and Dortha Patterson Phillips. He was a member Englewood Christian Church since 1967, a deacon, served as church treasurer and was an usher. He was a licensed certified public accountant and started Phillips Tax Service in Englewood and served two terms as the Mayor of Englewood where he was instrumental in the building of the Englewood Rec. Park and swimming pool. He enjoyed reading, watching Lady Vols and Bill Gaither and traveling across the United States with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, listed above and one brother, Johnny Lee Phillips. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rosa Lee (Wolf) Phillips; twin daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Jim Swayne and Lynn and Mike Morrison; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Barbara J. Phillips and Charles and Robin Phillips; grandchildren and spouses, Daniel and Trena Phillips, Ricky Philips, Amanda and Fabian Burchfield, Dionna Hagens, Quintin, Makayla and Madison Phillips, Dustin McKinney, Shawna Brazzell, Mark Swayne, Jenny Swayne and David and Grant Morrison; great-grandchildren, Brent, Emily and Aiden Phillips, Lilyan Phillips, Brycen Burchfield, Kaitlyn and Landon McKinney, Ali, Mercedes and Braxton Brazzell and Addyson Swayne. Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Minister David Coffey officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at McMinn Memory Gardens at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26th for the committal service.
