Geneva Underdown Hamby, 72, of Etowah, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. A native of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Howard Underdown and Bertie McNelley Padgett. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Ann Coleman; and one brother, Bob Underdown. Survivors include her children, Tammy J. Yates of Etowah, and Gary R. Hamby of Athens; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Barbara Underdown of Athens; two grandchildren, Morgan and Jordan Yates; special niece, Jennifer Martin of Athens; special friends, Ailene Odum of Athens, and April and Austin McKinzie of Etowah; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Saturday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Yates officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
