Obituary

Goldie Barefield, 77, of Etowah, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at his residence. A native of Farner and a lifelong resident of Etowah, he was a son of the late John and Elsie Runion Barefield. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of North Etowah Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Liner and Edith Hall; and one brother, Glen Barefield. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Joretta Young Barefield of Etowah; three daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Steve Songer of Athens, and Pamela and Keith Clark and Misty and Craig Peterson, all of Etowah; three grandchildren, Ashlyn Songer, Emery Peterson and Gavin-Briley Peterson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Curtis and Layspeaker Dennis Bordwine officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at noon Friday, and will proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 1 p.m. burial. Pallbearers will be Craig Peterson, Keith Clark, Steve Songer, Tommy Young, Jim Young and Ryan Allen. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
