Obituary

Grace Martin Trew, 97, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Born in Englewood, Tennessee, Grace spent her entire life in the community she loved, surrounded by family, friends, and the familiar hills she called home.

Grace devoted 40 wonderful years to teaching, pouring her heart into every child who entered her classroom. She was cherished by her students and their parents, remembered not only as a gifted educator but as a source of comfort, encouragement, and joy. Her kindness had a way of settling nerves, lifting spirits, and making everyone feel seen. Grace was happiest when she was with her family. She loved deeply and unconditionally, and her gentle presence made every gathering warmer. She had a gift for conversation and never hesitated to greet others with a friendly smile or a kind word. To know Grace was to feel welcomed. She loved the simple beauty of life especially her flowers, which she tended with great care. Grace was also a talented artist, finding peace and delight in drawing and painting. Books were her constant companions, offering her endless worlds to explore.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Max Trew; her parents, Albert Washington Martin and Callie Jimerson Martin; and her sisters, Rena Swany and Bennie Raper.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Anita Pippin (Jeff) and Sara Mundy (Steve); her grandchildren, Nate Pippin (Lauren), Josh Pippin (Ashley), Julie Sullivan (Brennan), and Liz Mundy (Aaron); and her precious great-grandchildren, Isaac Mitchell, Max Pippin, and Lane Pippin.

Funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14th, 2025 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Burt Beria officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble at McMinn Memory Gardens on Monday, December 15th for the 2:00 p.m. burial.

Grace leaves behind a legacy of love, gentleness, and quiet strength. Her family finds comfort knowing that her sweet spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
