Gwendolyn Joyce Underwood, 63, of Etowah, died early Monday morning, Dec. 3, 2012, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. She was a native of Loudon County and lived in McMinn County for most of her life. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and was a daughter of the late Joe and Treva Hunt Rogers. Survivors include her former husband and the father of her children, Lanny Underwood of Etowah; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Sherry Underwood of Etowah; one daughter, April Underwood Shankle of Etowah; seven grandchildren, Cayci Underwood, Summer Underwood, Trinidy Underwood, Autumn Underwood, Jade Underwood, Plez Shankle-Bland and Kallie Shankle-Bland; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lou Ann and Donald Bucker of Etowah, Jane Taylor of Loudon, and Ginger Farrell of Etowah; and one aunt, Jessi Hooper. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy Carter officiating. Burial will follow in New Providence Cemetery in Tellico Plains. Pallbearers will be Steve Patterson, Joe Underwood, Lanny Underwood, Paul Bland, Adam Lee and Plez Shankle. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
