Obituary

H. Neoma "Sis" Avalos, 80, died June 18, 2010 at Life Care Center of Athens. A daughter of the late William and Hazel Sammons Dukes, she was a native of Swifton, Arkansas. She moved to Niota in 1995 from Miami, Florida. Sis retired from GMAC in 1982 after a life-long career. Sis was very active in her church, the Etowah Senior Center, and she delivered "Meals On Wheels" for many years. Sis bowled in a league in Athens and won medals at the Senior Olympics. She moved to Delano in 1997. She was also a hostess at the Visitor's Center in McMinn County on I-75. Survivors include two brothers, Bill Dukes of Athens and Buddy Dukes of Portland, Ore.; and one sister and brother-in-law, Corenia and Pete Vasquez of Cameron, NC. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, July 17, 2010 in the South Chapel with Chaplain Emmett Morgan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Faye Forgety, 120 Co. Rd. 447, Athens, TN 37303, in memory of Rodney Jory.
