Harold Ray "Creepy" Cox, 93 of Etowah, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Strickland Cox; son Robert Gregory Cox; parents, John Fred and Rossie Gregory Cox.
Creepy served City of Etowah Mayor from 1989 to 1993, Commissioner of Education and Recreation for 24 years, State Assistant Babe Ruth Director for 20 years, Babe Ruth Director for Etowah District for 20 years, 1973 Women's State Softball Tournament (held in Etowah), 1970 Little League State Tournament (held in Etowah), Umpire (Little League to College) for 15 years, Chairman/Vice Chairman Etowah Utilities Board, Etowah Civil Defense Director for 20 years, Etowah Mason Lodge 653 F&AM, Mason Worshipful Master 1992, Mason Secretary for 22 years, McMinn County Scottish Rite as Past President, Past Secretary, Chairman Americanism Essay Program 1992 to 1995, Captain of the Host in the Consistory, 32 Degree Scottish Rite and Shriner, 33 Degree Scottish Rite Mason; Veteran WWII; Southeast Tennessee Handicapped Citizen of the Year in 1977, McMinn County Conservation & Recreation Board for 16 years, Etowah Regional Planning Commission for 14 years, McMinn County Planning Commission for 4 years, McMinn County Ambulance Committee for 12 years, Member McMinn County Economic Development Authority, Member of Etowah Chamber of Commerce, Member Elks Club of Athens for 35 years, Member American Legion Post 81 Cleveland, Member of North Etowah Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Ray E. and Debra Cox of Etowah, Steve and Paula Cox of Etowah, Rodney and Margaret Cox of Athens, Mark and Kim Cox of Columbia, SC; daughters and son-in-law, Cathy Landers of Atlanta, GA, Rebecca and Johnny Morgan of Etowah; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Masonic/Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2019 in Green Hill Cemetery with Rev. Katie Morgan-Harper officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 9:00 a.m., Friday at the funeral home and proceed to the cemetery.
