Obituary

Harold "Steve" Cox, 75, of Etowah, TN passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Steve was a member of Woodward Avenue Church of God for 35 years and he retired from the railroad as a conductor. Some of his most cherished memories include coaching little league basketball and going on mission trips. He was an avid Central Chargers sports fan, especially girls' basketball. Steve loved to watch his Tennessee Vols. He was a veteran of the US Army. In his free time, he cherished being with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold "Creepy" and Margie Strickland Cox; brother, Robert Gregory Cox; sister, Cathy Landers; father and mother-in-law, Paul and Grace Goodman.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Goodman Cox; children and spouses, Brett and Jody Cox, Samatha and Billy Manis, Wendy and John Vercher; grandchildren, Gracie and Emma Manis, Alex, Ben and Braden Couch, Adin Cox, Jason Royal, Emily and spouse, Tyler Boring; great granddaughter, Addie Royal; brother and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Debra Cox, Rodney and Margaret Cox, Mark and Kim Cox; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca "Wheatie" and Johnny Morgan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tim and Cheryl Goodman, Bill and Becky Goodman, Tommy Goodman; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Gene Smith, David Passmore and Johnny Cox.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Woodward Avenue Church of God in Athens, TN, with Pastor Clifford Waters and Dr. Chris Thomas officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Green Hill Cemetery for the committal service.

Billy Manis, John Vercher, Brett Cox, Braden Couch, Hunter Morris, and Jason Royal will serve as pallbearers. Gene Smith and Johnny Cox will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Woodward Avenue Church of God's Mission Fund, 507 Woodward Avenue Athens, TN 37303.
