Helen Louise Payne Free was born on December 8, 1920 in The Cambria Community of Etowah Tennessee where she spent her life, and died on March 13, 2019. She was a faithful Christian and a founding member of Cambria Baptist Church.

Predeceased by her husband, Mack Free, parents Rex L and Ida Melton Payne, brothers, Joe Shadden, James C, Jewell C, R Lynwood Payne, and special friend, Lolita White.

Survivors include nephew, Rex Payne and niece Judy Payne Hudson and special great niece Paula Payne Lougheed, and other nieces and nephews, faithful and long time caregiver, Callie Roberts. Many thanks for the kindnesses shown by Bill White, and Sherri and Pat Ervin.

Mack and Helen had no children of their own but were mentors to many in their community. Of mention are Jan Jones Moses, Jennifer Jones Hubbard and Michael White. Much gratitude is given to the staff of Woods Memorial Nursing Home for their love and care of Helen. The family would like to thank her friends at Cambria Baptist Church for their outpouring of love and their many visits to Helen.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Rowland and Layspeaker Pat Ervin officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday prior to the service. Interment will follow service to Cambria Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to be made to Cambria Baptist Church or to your favorite charity in Helens memory.
