Henry "Dick" Mendenhall, 74, of Etowah, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Etowah Health Care Center. The family would like to thank the staff of Etowah Health Care and Woods Memorial Hospital for their tender care during his stay there. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late William and Edith Ayers Mendenhall, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired conductor with CSX Railroad, and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Mendenhall; a grandson, Chase Runyan; one sister, Pat Clark; and five brothers, Dee, Doug, Bill, Ted and Willard Mendenhall. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Cristi and Sam Runyan of Athens, and Vicki Mendenhall of Etowah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty and Ruth Mendenhall of Etowah, and Mickey and Tina Mendenhall of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Cayci, Candice, Cassie, Zach, Olivia and Tucker; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Ernie and Burrell Mendenhall of Detroit, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at McMinn Memory Gardens with Pastor Mark Hensley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31st at the funeral home.
