Hobert Wilson, 81, of Etowah, went to be with his dear Lord, who he loved so much on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at his residence with his loving wife of 64 years at his side. A son of the late Demps and Leona Wilson, he was a native of Erwin, Tenn., and moved his family to Etowah in 1965. He was a member of Coghill Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and witnessed to anyone he met. He loved antique cars and his 1955 Ford he bought new. He had a heart of gold and spent many hours trying to get his fellow Carmen jobs when they were laid off. He was loved everywhere he went, from upper East Tennessee to Etowah, and everyone called him "Hob". He retired from CSX Railroad in 1988 after 37 years where he worked as carman. He was a good union leader and loved the men he worked with. He was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Wilson, Pearl Thomas and Ethel Adkens; two brothers, Raymond Wilson and Joe Wilson; and Doug Nichols. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Alma Lee Wilson of Etowah; one daughter, Debra Ann Wilson of Etowah; one brother and sister-in-law, Zade and Carolyn Wilson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sherman and Verna Lou Dulaney, Buster and Patty Edwards, Dale and Mary Ruth Lewis, Rick and Charlotte McFall, Kenny and Gina Correll, Jim Correll and Lorena Wilson; and a special friend, Steve Rouse. Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Homer Belcher officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin, Tenn. at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17th for the committal service with the Rev. Steve Dickson officiating.
