xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> Homer "H.C." Newberry Jr. Homer "H.C." Newberry Jr., 77, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Clyde and Alice Newberry. He was a charter member and deacon of Grace Baptist Church in Etowah. Ever since he had accepted the Lord as his Savior, as a young man at the age of 11, his life was committed to serving the Lord and studying His word. He was a loving husband and father, and a friend to all. He worked at Bowater for 39 years, retiring in 1996. His employment was briefly interrupted for two years, while he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Fred, Ed, Charlie, Frank, Carson, Mark and Glen Newberry; and one sister, Lemma Newberry Burchfield. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jeanette Brady Newberry; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Niena Newberry; one grandson, Nathan Torbett; one granddaughter, Jennifer Nunley; one great-grandson, Micah Nunley (his best buddy); two brothers, Phillip Newberry and his wife, Linda, and Don Newberry and his wife, Marie; one sister, Sibyl Newberry Nunley and her husband, Bruce; granddaughters through love, Rachel Harris Perry, Rebekah Harris, Deborah Harris Anziano, Leah Harris Miller and Lydia Harris; and great-grandchildren through love, Hank and Jack Perry and Luke and Ruby Anziano. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at McMinn Memory Gardens with Pastor Don Harris officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home. Bordwine Funeral Home of Etowah is in charge of arrangements.
