Howard Franklin Rowland, age 86, of Etowah went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Woods Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Etowah, where he was born Feb. 10, 1925, he was a son of the late Calvin and Nora Scarborough Rowland. He was a member of old Salem Baptist Church, Etowah Masonic Lodge and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Rowland. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Willie Mae Duncan Rowland of Etowah; one daughter and her fiance', Elizabeth Ann Rowland and Ray Hoover, both of Etowah; two grandchildren, Haley Ann and Skylar Lee Webb, both of Etowah; one sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Tom McRee of South Carolina; a special sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Nenton of Delano; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Benny Watson and Rev Kinzel Hooker officiating. Burial will follow in Old Salem Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Michael Case, Kevin Case, Ryan Case, Jamie Dunsmore, Aaron Dunsmore, and Micah Duncan. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Masonic service will follow at 8 p.m. Bordwine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
