Obituary

James Browder Moses, 85, of Athens, died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Woods Memorial Hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Foster and Maggie Crockett Moses. He was a member of Dixon Avenue Baptist Church; a member of the Etowah Lodge F&AM #653; a member of the Chattanooga Scottish Rite; and a member of the Alhambra Shrine. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp serving during WWII. He was retired from Etowah Utilities. He was preceded in death by sisters, Vida Mae Segretto, Eva Lou Fowler, Nona Rae Shadden, Mamie Martin, Belva Tallent and Beulah Culpepper; and brothers, Creed, Reece, Troy and Charlie Moses, and Carl, Jack and Paul Shadden.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Katherine Thomas Moses of Athens; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Barbara Moses of Athens; four grandchildren, Candy Burk and spouse Robert, Shaye Rogers and spouse Jason, Greg Moses and Lacie Haren and spouse John; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Betty Moses of Etowah; three sisters-in-law, June Moses and Naomi Shadden of Athens, and Martha Moses of Dalton, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will assemble at Green Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 15th for graveside service with the Rev. Allen Watson officiating. Greg Moses, Jason Rogers, Robert Burk, John Haren, Roger Farley and Jerry Shadden will serve as pallbearers.

There will be no formal visitation held.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Dixon Avenue Baptist Church, PO Box 513, Englewood, TN 37329.
